bourbon classWhat the Class Offers

You’ll get to spend a day at the distillery learning the basics of making bourbon. We will have a batch ready to distill and you will get the opportunity to have hands on experience with our still as you learn how the still functions and how to make the cuts on the liquor coming off the still. Once we are into the hearts of the run, we will also walk you through the grinding and mashing of grain – class participants getting hands on experience making a batch of mash from scratch. We will have some classroom setting going over the science of the art. Sound fun so far?

Now here is where this gets interesting. These classes will be making a brand new bourbon for us at the distillery. No offense, but our 1386 is pretty special to us and we like to keep the production of that to ourselves. What the classes will be making is a more tradition bourbon with corn and rye. Furthermore, since this is new, the first classes will have a hand in naming the bourbon and the label design. The bourbon will be aged in 30 gallon barrels which will allow each class to put up there own unique barrel. Also, since it will be in smaller barrels, we can age it two years and still have a well aged product.

Having Fun, and Giving Back

Now the best part. Everyone that attends the classes will get to pick from a list of charitable organizations that they would like the proceeds of their barrel to go to. Larry and I are going to donate all the profits from the bourbon that the classes produce. Organizations like The Ohio State University Nisonger Center, Save A Warrior, The Bridge, Pure Heart Children’s Fund, The Salvation Army, Walhonding Valley Firefighters and some others will be on the list as to where you want your contribution to go towards. It will be a mix of local and national charities.
